The Bamberg Rathaus -- Look Closely!

Bamberg has a spectacular Rathaus. Not, that doesn't mean a house where rats live. In the German language, "rat" means to advise. It's a place where the mayor goes to work. The mayor and the city council take care of things in your city, like streets, picking up the garbage and the police officers. Ask your mommy to show you where the mayor goes to work in Portland.

Imagine painting all those pictures on that giant building! Now imagine making a baby's leg and a piece of paper that stick out of the building! That was done more than 600 years ago. Pretty hard to believe. The world has a lot of surprises.

We ate at a restaurant where your mom ate a long time ago -- before you were born! We had smoked beer (Alex called it "bacon beer"), sausages and sauerkraut (of course), and. . .best of all. . .sauerbraten (which tastes like pot roast) and a gigantic ball. . .a potato dumpling that we called a "glueball" because it was so sticky. It was really tasty. Maybe Mommy can make one for you!
